Sociological research interests include: the social logics of consuming less; the commodification of simplicity in contemporary U.S. culture; and consumption, social class, and dachas (summer homes) in Russia from the late Imperial period to the present. Roz has authored or co-authored chapters in the Annual Review of Sociology and the edited collection, Living Through Soviet Russia, as well as book reviews and research reports.

Publications include American Music in the 20th Century (1997); The Music of Conlon Nancarrow (1995); contributions to The Whole World of Music: A Henry Cowell Symposium (1998) and Sound and Light: La Monte Young & Marian Zazeela (1996); and articles and reviews in Village Voice, Contemporary Music Review, Percussive Notes Journal, New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Fanfare, Stagebill, others. Studied at the Music School of the National University and the National Conservatory, Mexico; conservatories of Bern and Basel, Switzerland; and Trossingen, Germany. Pupil of Sándor Veress, Sándor Vegh, and Pablo Casals. Scholarship to Conservatory of Moscow with Rostropovich and Khachaturian (1960). Prizes: Casals International Contest, Paris (1956); Xalapa (1959); Israel (1961); Harriet Cohen Cello Prize, London (1959). Solo performances in North and South America, Europe, the Soviet Union, and Israel. Faculty of Vassar College; Yale Summer Graduate School of Music and Art; University of Southern California, Los Angeles. Former music director, Woodstock Chamber Orchestra. (1962–2004) Professor Emeritus and Visiting Professor of Music.
