Accreditation, Approval, and Licensure of Institution and Programs

Bard College is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of theMiddle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The courses of study leading to the bachelor of arts, bachelor of music, and bachelor of science degrees at Bard are registered by the New York State Education Department. The programs of study leading to the master of arts, master of arts in teaching, master of fine arts, master of music, and master of science in environmental policy degrees and the master and doctor of philosophy degrees in the history of the decorative arts, design, and culture at Bard are registered by the New York State Education Department, Office of Higher Education, State Education Building, 2nd FloorWestMezzanine, Albany, NY 12234; phone: 518-474-3862.

Bard is also a member of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, the College Entrance Examination Board, the American Council on Education, the Union for Experimenting Colleges and Universities, the Associated Colleges of theMid-Hudson Area, and the Educational Records Bureau.

Copyright Infringement−Policies and Sanctions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research". If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

   * All Interlibrary Loan requests must comply as follows with U.S. copyright law.
   * No more than five articles from a single journal title published within the last five years may be requested during a single calendar year.
   * No more than two articles from the same issue of a journal published within the last five years may be requested.
   * No more than 50 percent of any copyrighted work may be copied.
