Flexible Spending Account
Flexible Spending Plan Summary
Full-time employees are eligible to participate in the flexible benefits spending plan. The plan is designed to allow you to put aside tax-free dollars into an account which would be used to pay for health, vision or dental expenses not covered by insurance. The plan year runs from January 1 to December 31. All employees must re-enroll each year. Open enrollment is each November.

Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield EPO
Bard College's health insurance is through Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield. Eligible employees may participate in one of the following two plans, the PPO plan or the EPO plan. Both plans are identical with the exception of the PPO offering an out of network benefit. The new Empire plan does not include a pharmacy benefit, which is instead being provided through Express Scripts.

Vision Care Benefit
The vision care benefit is: $5 co-pay for one (1) eye exam every 24 months; $10 co-pay for eyeglass frames and lenses or $25 co-pay for soft, standard daily wear contact lenses. Long-Term Care & Disability
Long-Term Care Insurance
All full-time active employees and part-time employees working 338 hours per year or more are eligible to participate in the long-term care insurance program. Long-term care insurance is designed to help defray the potentially high costs of extended care. Rates are dependent on the amount of coverage you purchase ($100, $175 or $250 daily maximum benefit) with a lifetime maximum of 1,825 days.

Long-Term Disability Program
After twelve (12) months of continuous service, eligible employees are covered by a long-term disability program. This insurance is applied when the employee is declared disabled and has been unable to work for six (6) months. In coordination with Social Security disability, it provides for approximately 60% of one's total salary for as long as the disability is present. It also provides for the continuation of pension payments if the employee is a plan participant. The cost of this disability plan is paid completely by the College.

Retirement Plans
Qualified Plan (for B&G and Security Staff only)
On the first day of the month after one (1) year of regular service and attainment of age 21, you will be eligible to participate in this defined contribution retirement program.

In this plan, the College contributes 2% of your base hourly rate in the first year of participation increasing annually to a maximum of 10%. Vesting in this plan occurs over time with full vesting of funds after six (6) years of active service.

B&G Staff, please refer to the Local 200-D union booklet for complete details. Security Staff, please refer to the United Plant Guard Workers union booklet for complete details.
Supplemental Retirement Annuity Plan
Also available is the tax-deferred Supplemental Retirement Annuity Plan (SRA). Participants contribute monthly amounts through salary reduction. SRA contracts can be opened at any time.
TIAA-CREF Retirement Plan (for Faculty only)
Regular Faculty: Faculty (6/13 fraction and above) may participate optionally in the TIAA/CREF plan after one year and compulsory after three (3) years of service at Bard and attainment of age 25. The College contributes 12.5% of the base salary while the individual must contribute a minimum of 2.5%. Visiting Faculty: Faculty (6/13 fraction and above) who have been teaching in a Visiting status may participate in the TIAA/CREF retirement program beginning with the third year of service and attainment of age 25. The College contributes 12.5% of the base salary while the individual must contribute a minimum of 2.5%.

TIAA-CREF Retirement Plan (for Staff only)
Full-time employees are eligible on the first day of the month after two (2) years of regular service and attainment of age 21. In this plan, the College contributes 10% of your gross annual salary. You may elect to contribute additional amounts on a voluntary basis. If presently enrolled in a TIAA/CREF retirement program through a former employer, participation may begin immediately.

Transportation Fringe Benefit
Qualified Transportation Expense Plan
Eligible employees in our NYC programs can participate in the qualified transportation expense plan. The plan is designed to allow you to pay for mass transit, qualified parking fees and/or commuter highway vehicle (van pool) expenses with pre-tax dollars. The per month combined total allowance for mass transit (subway, bus, train) and van pool is $115. The per month allowance for parking is $220 for 2008.
