Biography:

BA, MA, University of Naples L’Orientale; PhD, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Professor Bonatti’s teaching interests include social research methods, globalization, social movements, social theory, and gender, race, and class in a transnational setting. Her dissertation explored “Resistance and Waste Work: Women and Environmentalism in Campania, Italy,” and her refereed journal articles include “Taking Out the Garbage: Migrant Women’s Unseen Environmental Work,” in the European Journal of Women’s Studies (2017); “Mobilizing around Motherhood: Successes and Challenges for Women Protesting against Toxic Waste in Campania, Italy,” in Capitalism, Nature, Socialism (2015); and “Are Migrants Agents or Instruments of Development? The Case of Temporary Migration in Malaysia,” in Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies (2014). She also coauthored a book chapter on long-distance parenting / Italian families of young migrants in Fondazione Migrantes’ Rapporto Italiani nel Mondo (2017). At the University of Illinois, she conducted research for projects on Rust Belt efforts to retain and attract immigrants, and the intersections of migration and waste work. At Bard: Spring 2018
