Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry
Primary Academic Program: Chemistry
BS, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF); PhD, Syracuse University. Professor Pinto’s research interests include natural products, organic chemistry, and biochemistry. More specifically, he is interested in the mechanistic and structural characteristics of proteins and the wide array of chemistries and reactivities displayed, as well as the metabolic pathways within bacterial cultures involved in producing biodegradable and/or therapeutically useful value-added compounds. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Georgia Institute of Technology and served as a research assistant at the University of Ottawa. He most recently held a postdoc position at SUNY ESF. Pinto is the recipient of a National Science Foundation Research Fellowship, and his work has been published in Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry
(2016); Journal of Bacteriology
(2016); Biochimica et Biophysica Acta
); and Organic Letters
(2012). He previously taught at Utica College, Syracuse University, and ESF, with courses ranging in subject from introductory organic chemistry and biochemistry to synthesis and biosynthesis of natural products. At Bard since 2018.
