Biography:

B.M., University of the Philippines; Ph.D., University of Washington; also postgraduate studies at Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Ethnomusicologist; specializes in traditional and popular music of China, Vietnam, and Chinese diasporic communities of Southeast Asia. First prize, Piano Competitions, Category C, National Music Competitions for Young Artists, Manila (1982). Recipient, Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Alberta (1996–98); Boeing Award for academic excellence, University of Washington. Has taught and conducted research at New York University and University of Alberta. At Bard since 2005.
