Biography:

B.A., Harvard College; M.A., Ph.D., Graduate Faculty of New School University. Author, Eating Disorders: Anatomy of a Social Epidemic (second ed., 2000) and Eating Disorders and Cultures in Transition (2001). New York licensed psychologist practicing in Red Hook, New York. Lifetime member, American Psychological Association. Member and Fellow, Academy for Eating Disorders. Honorary Fellow, American Psychiatric Association, cited for contributions to understanding the social and cultural dimensions of biological psychiatry and psychiatric disorders. Currently engaged in book project entitled Explorers of Eating Disorders: A Modern History of a Clinical Science, based on interviews with 36 leading clinicians in eight countries. Continues as an active, performing jazz pianist in the United States and Mexico. At Bard since 1973.
