Biography:
B.S., Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University; M.A., New York University; Ph.D., Wesleyan University. A performer and ethnologist whose interests and activities span a wide range of fields, including Japanese traditional performing arts, issues of identity and creative expression of multiracial individuals, interactive dance/movement performance, and gestural control and extended human/computer interface in the performing arts. She teaches and performs
shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) and
nihon buyo (Japanese traditional dance), under the stage name of Samie Tachibana. Her ethnography
