B.A., M.A., University College Cork; Ph.D., University of Cambridge. A medieval historian, he is the author of numerous books and scholarly articles, most recently Thomas Becket and His Biographers
. He is completing a book on historical interpretation in late 12th- and 13th-century England, a project facilitated by a Government of Ireland Senior Research Fellowship and a Visiting Fellowship at the Center for Medieval Studies, Fordham University. He has served as research associate on the Acta of Henry II and Richard I
project at the Faculty of History, Cambridge. Previously taught at University College Dublin, where his subjects included medieval Ireland and Britain, biography and autobiography in the middle ages, 12th-century intellectual life, and the crisis of the 14th century. At Bard: Fall 2013.
