Biography:

B.A., Bard College; M.F.A., University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Author of The Manual of Detection (Penguin Press, 2009), which received the International Association of Crime Writers/NA Hammett Prize and IAFA Crawford Award. His debut novel was also named a New York Public Library Young Lions Fiction Award finalist and has been widely published in translation. His short fiction has appeared online at Tor.com and Interfictions; in the journals Matchbook, Conjunctions, Chicago Review, PEN America, and Fairy Tale Review, among others; and in the anthologies Best American Fantasy and Best New American Voices 2008. Nonfiction publications include interviews with Bradford Morrow (Bookslut.com) and Brian Conn (Rain Taxi Review of Books), and reviews in the Los Angeles Times and Rain Taxi Review of Books. Honors and awards also include a James Merrill House Writer-in-Residence Fellowship and Yaddo Fellowship. Previously taught at University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is an associate editor of Conjunctions and previously served as editor of Small Beer Press. At Bard: 2013–2014.
