Biography:

B.A., Kalamazoo College; M.A., School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London; M.Phil., Columbia University. Author of Open City (Random House, 2011; winner of the PEN/Hemingway Award and Internationaler Literaturpreis, short-listed for National Book Critics Circle Award; Every Day Is for the Thief (Cassava Press, 2007; Random House 2014); and articles in New Yorker, Transition, Tin House, Farafina, and other magazines and journals. Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in the Humanities (2001–02); Chinua Achebe Fellow, Bard College (2011). Distinguished Lectureship at Duke University. At Bard since 2011.
