Lecture by Merlijn Twaalfhoven - "Hidden Art in a War Zone"

Friday, February 8, 2013

Composer and theater-maker Merlijn Twaalfhoven discusses challenges and strategies in creating Al Quds Underground, a secret festival in the living rooms of families from different cultures in the Old City of Jerusalem. Twaalfhoven will explore the tensions between diplomacy, activism, and artistic quality, and suggest ways that students might become involved in future editions of the festival.

Merlijn Twaalfhoven is a Dutch composer, musician, and political activist who has for several years organized an underground music and theater festival in Jerusalem, where he brings together performers and civilians in both Israel and Palestine, playing together on both sides of the peace line.
