Programs for International Students
Bard Foreign Scholarships
Non-repayable grants are awarded on the basis of financial need and academic
achievement and promise. Scholarships range from $5,000 to $22,000 annually
for full-time enrollment.
International Loan
The basic terms of the loan are as follows:
1. No interest is charged while the student is enrolled at Bard, nor is payment
on the principal expected while the student is enrolled at Bard.
2. Repayment of the loan principal and interest ensues one year from the
date the student graduates from Bard. If the student withdraws from Bard
prior to completing an undergraduate degree, repayment of the loan principal
and interest begins immediately.
3. The interest rate is 9%.
4. Repayment is made over 4 1/2 years with 1/10 of principal plus interest
due every six months. The final payment is the remaining 1/5 of the principal
payment plus interest.
Campus Employment
Campus Employment is an indication of the student's eligibility
to work on campus. It is not a guarantee of the amount indicated. The
student will be paid in accord with the hours worked and will receive
the amount earned on a twice-monthly payroll. Earnings from employment
are primarily used to cover book and personal expenses; the award is
not to be used for credit against tuition and fee charges. The college
will assist international students in finding employment. Eligible students
should contact the Payroll Department at (845)758-7517 to determine if
additional information is needed in order to receive a paycheck.
Applying for International Students
To be considered for financial aid at Bard College,
international students and their parents are expected to complete the International
Student Financial Aid Form* and the Declaration
of Finances*, which foreign nationals file in order to obtain a
visa. These forms are also available in the College's Admissions Office
and Financial Aid Office. All returning
students will receive the International Student Financial Aid Form
by February of each year.
Financial Aid is not automatically renewed each year. The student must reapply
by submitting the International Student Financial Aid Form each year that
financial aid is expected. Upon completion of the form, prospective students
should return all forms to the Admissions Office and returning students should
return the International Student Aid Form to the Financial Aid Office. The
deadline for submission of forms is March 15 for prospective students and
April 15 for returning students.

Acrobat Reader for viewing and printing.
Award Procedures for International
Students
Prospective students' files are maintained in
the Admissions Office along with their admission documents. The Admissions
Office reviews the Declaration of Finances for each student. Upon notifying
the student about admission, assuming that the decision is favorable,
the Financial Aid Office will prepare a response to the student about
financial aid. At times the need of the student is far greater than
the College's resources can meet. In such a case, the Admission
Office will correspond with the student stating that no offer of aid
is being made due to that fact. The student in this case is given an
opportunity to submit a new Declaration of Finances, indicating available
resources to be higher.
Offers of financial aid typically consist of three forms of assistance: grants,
loans, and campus employment. Such awards, occurring singularly or in combination,
are referred to as a student's financial aid "package." Packaging
for new candidates begins in late March. Students are notified of their package
in a financial aid award letter, assuming that an admission decision has
been made and Bard has received all of the necessary financial aid application
materials. Packaging of returning students is done by May 1.
