and competes in the fall and spring semesters. The student members
of the club maintain a rigorous schedule with New York area college
and university teams. The home field, the Seth Goldfine Memorial

The women's rugby club is a member of the Metropolitan Rugby Union
and competes in the fall and spring semesters. The club is the newest
of Bard's club sports and has worked very hard both on and off the
field. The squad plans on competing in their first matches in the
fall, and will be playing a busy schedule in the NY area. Off of
the field, the club is busy fundraising and giving back to the local
area through community service. For more information, please contact
Rugby Club President, Bethany Dettmore at bd838@bard.edu.
Fencing
Club
The class schedule for the 2007-08 school year is: Thursdays from 9-10:30pm and Sundays from 5-6:30pm. The College sponsors a fencing club for men and women with a focus
on skill instruction in foil, epee and saber. The club trains on
campus and has the opportunity to compete off campus with area clubs
and selected colleges. Club members of all skill levels are welcome
to participate - No experience needed! All classes are held in the gym.The Fencing Club is coached by Hope Konecny. Coach Konecny has been fencing for over 30 years. She was two time Connecticut high school state champion, a member of an NCAA championship fencing team at San Jose State in California, and earned a silver medal in the 1981 USA national championships. Hope represented the USA at two world university championships and one world championship. Coach Konecny has been a coach at Bard for many years and has run her own fencing center, The Gristmill, since 1997.
For more information,
please contact Fencing Coach Hope Konecny at (518) 966-5833.
Equestrian
Club
The Bard Equestrian team riders take weekly group or private lessons
at our home farm. More riding is encouraged, but not required. We
compete in the IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association) horse
shows in Zone 2, Region 1. Each year, there are approximately 10
competitions at different school's barns, and we try to go to all
of
them. We compete against teams like Vassar, Drew, Centenary, Marist,
and USMA. This year we finished 8 out of 13 teams with 104 points.
We are always looking for more riders to join the team. No previous
riding experience is necessary - we accept all levels! For more
information, please contact Elizabeth Ford at ef439@bard.edu.

Ultimate
Frisbee Club
The Bard Ultimate (Frisbee)
team, a.k.a. Think-Tank , practices 4 days a week in the
Spring and Fall seasons. One day of the practices is designated
for pick-up only and we encourage anyone interested to come out
and play on those days to see what the game is all about and to
have a lot of fun. This is the first year that we have joined the
Ultimate Players Association (UPA) to compete in the College Nationals
Tournament held every spring season. Besides this tournament we
travel to tournaments at other schools, hope to host our own tournament,
and play single games against schools like Vassar and Marist home
and away. We are always looking for people interested in learning
the game, no experience necessary. For more information,
please contact Thomas McCosker, tm759@bard.edu
Swim
Club
The swim club trains from September through May, three times per
week under the direction of Head Coach, Fred Schultz. Some competition
is available to club members in both team and individual formats.
College swim club members train with members of the Bard Masters
Swim Club. The team swims Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:30
to 5:30. For more information, please contact Club Sport Director,
Jen Watson at Watson@bard.edu.
Cycling
Club/Team
The Bard Cycling Club has two categories for participants: one for casual riding and one for racing.
The casual riding part of the club does rides throughout the year. The group is split up into different sections, depending on how far and how fast people want to go. In general, speeds are low (around 15 mph) and the distances are moderate (around 25 miles). We vary the routes from week to week, and take in much of the local scenery, including the Hudson River, the Catskills, and the old mansions. We recommend using a road bike, but this is completely unnecessary.
The racing part of the club is for those who see beauty in speed and danger. We are affiliated with the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference and compete in races across the northeast from March to April. In 2006, for example, we were in PA for the Rutger’s Criterium, in VT for the UVM Road Race, and down the street for the West Point Cycling Classic. The racing team trains on the hilly terrain surrounding the school; group rides may run from the chapel, the bike shop Bike Brothers in Kingston, or (hopefully) Vassar College in Poughkeepsie. Of course, all who wish may ride with the team- there’s no obligation to race. Our team director is Director of Security and avid cyclist Ken Cooper.
Fortunately for beginners, the ECCC is structured with A, B, C, and D categories, so you are sure to find a comfort zone. Plus the additional benefits: the cheapest and best jerseys this side of Boulder, free tune-ups at Bike Brothers. (And prospectively) a special team conference/training room in the old gym, discount carbon team bikes, and the chance to mountain bike race over fall semester.
For more information or to be added to the email contact list, please email Jonathan Raye, Team Captain at jr978@bard.edu.

Baseball
Club
The Bard Baseball Club is the newest club sport at Bard. They train in the fall and spring semesters and hope to begin the 2007-08 school year with some local competition. The team trains indoors and outdoors and has worked very hard to attract a group of talented players to the club. Come and help this club continue to grow!
To get more information, please contact Lucas Pipes at lp771@bard.edu
Ice
Hockey Club
The Bard Ice Hockey Club plays at the Kiwanis Ice Arena, which is twenty minutes away from Bard Campus, in Saugerties, NY. At Kiwanis, Bard participates in the Adult Ice Hockey League, sponsored by USA Hockey. The Ice Hockey Club also includes pick-up games, which will be held at the roller rink in Red Hook. The club also plays indoor hockey in the Stevenson Gym and runs an intramural hockey program for the Bard community. The Hockey Club is in it’s second year as a club sport at Bard and watch for continued growth in 2007-08. For more information, please email Marc
Lorenc at ml851@bard.edu.
