The Immersion Experience

The Al-Quds Bard Summer Language Intensive (SLI) offers:

  • An Arabic-only policy at Al-Quds and during cultural excursions
  • Palestinian language partners from Al-Quds Bard
  • “Arabic Table” lunch with instructors, classmates, and language partners
  • Homework sessions and conversation practice with faculty and tutors
  • Excursions to the region’s world-renowned cultural sites
  • Home-stays with Palestinian families or in guest houses

The four-credit program builds upon concepts covered in the Al-Kitaab series and is offered in partnership with Al-Quds Bard College for Arts and Sciences and Al-Quds University’s Center for Jerusalem Studies (CJS). Modern Standard Arabic instruction will reflect themes and vocabulary related to the city of Jerusalem. Colloquial Arabic classes engage students with the Palestinian dialect both in the classroom and throughout the city.
