The Study Abroad Process

Where to Begin

Students planning to study abroad should begin the process of researching programs their sophomore year. The following steps should be taken:
  1. Ensure you meet the eligibility requirements outlined below.
  2. Contact study abroad adviser Trish Fleming at fleming@bard.edu or 845-758-7080 to schedule an advising appointment.
  3. Research study abroad options either online at www.iiepassport.org or by visiting the study abroad library located in the Ottaway Gatehouse (the white hexagonal building at the corner of Annandale Road and Blithewood Avenue). Program materials there are available for students to take.
  4. Discuss your study abroad plans with your academic advisers, foreign language faculty (if applicable), and/or members of your moderation boards. Advisers' approval will be necessary (see Application and Approval below).

Eligibility

Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher and must have successfully moderated in order to be eligible to study abroad. Transfer students: at least half of your total credits must be earned in Annandale in order to earn a Bard College degree (which might affect your ability to spend a full semester abroad). Check with the Registrar to determine your status.
