Union Catalogs:

  • OCLC First Search/Worldcat - Books and other materials in over 9,000 libraries worldwide. Contains all the records cataloged by OCLC member libraries. Offers over 67 million bibliographic records.
  • SCIPIO (Auction catalogs) - Online union catalog of auction catalog records Provides bibliographic access to auction sales catalogs from all major North American and European auction houses as well as important private sales—valuable sources of information on the provenance of art objects and rare books, the history of collecting, and contemporary and historical market trends.

Core BGC Indexes:

  • Art Abstracts - A bibliographic database covering topics such as advertising art, antiques, architecture, computers, fashion, graphics, photography, television, textiles, and video from periodicals published throughout the world. Contains links to full text.
  • Art Index Retrospective - Covers the following subjects from 1929 to 1984: advertising art, antiques, archaeology, architecture and architectural history, art history, computers in art, crafts, decorative arts, fashion design, folk art, graphic arts, industrial design, interior design, landscape architecture, motion pictures, museology, nonwestern art, painting, photography, pottery, sculpture, television, textiles.
  • Art Bibliographies Modern - Covers 1974 to the present. ARTbibliographies Modern covers all aspects of modern and contemporary art (19th century to the present), as well as photography (1839 to the present).
  • Avery Index - Indexes more than 2,000 periodicals published worldwide on archaeology, city planning, interior design, and historic preservation, as well as architecture. Coverage is from the 1930s (with selective coverage dating back to the 1860s) to the present.
  • BHA (Bibliography of the History of Art - Covering European and American art from late antiquity to the present, the Bibliography of the History of Art indexes and abstracts art related books, conference proceedings and dissertations, exhibition and dealer's catalogs, and articles from more than 2,500 periodicals. The Bibliography of the History of Art is updated quarterly and covers 1973 to the present.
  • DAAI (Design and Applied Arts Database) - Abstracts and bibliographic records for articles, news items, and reviews published in design and applied arts periodicals from 1973 onwards. Covers both new designers and the development of design and the applied arts since the mid-19th century, surveying disciplines including ceramics, glass, jewellery, wood, metalsmithing, graphic design, fashion and clothing, textiles, furniture, interior design, architecture, computer aided design, Web design, computer-generated graphics, animation, product design, industrial design, garden design, and landscape architecture. Contains more than 150,000 records with new records added each month in twice-monthly updates.
  • Index to 19th Century Art Periodicals - Covers 42 periodicals published in the United States during the 19th century. Sole online index to virtually all the art journals published in that period.
  • Dissertation Abstracts - Selectively covers masters theses and dissertations including dissertations from Canada, Great Britain, and Europe 1861 to the present.
  • English Short Title Catalog - For scholars in English culture, language, and literature. From the beginnings of print to 1800, provides extensive descriptions and holdings information for letterpress materials printed in Great Britain or any of its dependencies in any language—as well as for materials printed in English anywhere else in the world. Serves as a comprehensive bibliography of the hand-press era and as a census of surviving copies.
  • Artfact Pro (Auction resource) - Database of auction prices and catalog descriptions of objects sold at 500+ auction houses includes: antiques & fine art; estimated & sales prices; millions of photos; complete original descriptions; 10+ million objects.
  • ArchiveGrid - International Web site describing primary sources. Research tool for material on family and corporate histories, personal papers, and historical records. Provides direct search access to dispersed collections and comprehensive collection descriptions written by archivists. Scholars can locate relevant research institutions, arrange visits, or request copies. Over 2,500 libraries, museums, and archives worldwide contribute collection descriptions.
  • Bard College A-Z Indexes & Databases List - Annotated list of indexes and databases provided through Bard College.

  • Bard College A-Z Journal List - Complete list of journals accessible through Bard in print format, electronic format or both. A link is provided if electronic access is available.
  • BGC Subscription Titles (limited issues of Ebsco ejournals) - Access to full-text articles for a limited number of titles and issues from the BGC Library EBSCO subscription list.
  • Ebsco Academic Search Premier - Provides full text for more than 3,460 scholarly publications covering academic areas of study including social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, and ethnic studies. This database is updated on a daily basis.
  • Encyclopedia Britannica Online - EB Online includes the complete encyclopedia, as well as Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and the Britannica Book of the Year. You can also use EB Online to search an Internet directory that includes more than 130,000 links to Web sites selected, rated, and reviewed by Britannica editors.
  • Grove Dictionary of Art - Covers all the visual arts from prehistory to the 1990's with fully searchable text, thousands of image links and constant updates.
  • Historical New York Times - Offers full-text and full-image articles for newspapers dating back to the 18th century. As part of the ProQuest Historical Newspapers program, every issue of each title includes the complete paper–cover-to-cover–with full-page and article images in downloadable PDF.
  • JSTOR - A backfile of core journals in the arts and sciences, JSTOR contains millions of pages in PDF format searchable through JSTOR itself or through the appropriate subject indexes.
  • Lexis-Nexis - Provides full-text access to a wide range of news, business, legal, and reference information.
  • Project Muse - With well over 100 journals in full-text, Project MUSE covers the fields of literature and criticism, history, the visual and performing arts, cultural studies, education, political science, gender studies, and many others, searchable through Project Muse itself, or through the appropriate subject indexes.

Image Databases:

  • ARTstor - A searchable repository of hundreds of thousands of digital images and related data. The collection documents artistic traditions across many times and cultures and embraces architecture, painting, sculpture, photography, decorative arts, and design as well as many other forms of visual culture.
