Research > decorative arts links > associationsAmerican Art Pottery Association Includes information on the society as well as a list of articles in back issues of the Society’s journal. Includes a pottery discussion group, book reviews, a code of ethics for dealers, a very limited database of fakes, and a stolen items report. A less than appealing site visually, and not terribly well organized, but the information is useful and unique. An independent research library of American history, literature and culture from the Colonial era through Reconstruction. The site also includes a library catalog, information on programs, fellowships, publications, and a an on-line exhibition. American Historical Association A membership organization for the promotion of historical studies, the collection and preservation of historical documents and artifacts, and the dissemination of historical research. Includes some on-line publications. American Society for 18th-century Studies An interdisciplinary group dedicated to the advancement of scholarship in all aspects of the 18th century. Includes on-line book reviews. Exists to promote and encourage the interdisciplinary study of American culture - past and present. Web site includes digital archive of past publications, information on fellowships and employment, and links to related sites. Dedicated to the study, preservation and celebration of all forms of Art Deco. Site includes information on publications and events, as well as links to other regional Art Deco societies. The on-line "home" for the present-day Arts & Crafts community. Includes events, links to Arts & Crafts resources, bibliographies and a discussion forum. The Association for Gravestone Studies An international organization furthering the study and preservation of gravestones. Site functions as a clearinghouse for research information on related topics. Site covers the history and purpose of the Chipstone foundation. Also included are a gallery of images from the collection and information about Chipstone publications. On-line information about the CAA. Useful features include electronic book reviews, membership and conference information, career guides and links to related sites. Early American Industries Association This organizations mission is to encourage the study of early american industries and the preservation of obselete tools. Site includes a history of the organization and online indices to the associations publications. Although the Furniture society is geared mostly toward contemporary furniture makers, there is a research section of the web site that includes bibliographies and course syllabi on Furniture History. Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture The only organization in the U.S. exclusively dedicated to the advancement of study, research and publications on the history and culture of early America to approximately 1815. Web site includes information on fellowships and publications, as well as an extensive list of related web links. Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities SPNEA is a museum of cultural history that collects and preserves buildings, landscapes and objects dating from the 17th-century to the present. Site contains information on historic properties, an on-line exhibition, and guides to the organization's library and archives. The VAF is dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of vernacular architecture. Useful features on its site are recent book reviews and an extensive bibliography that is updated regularly. On-line home of the Victorian Society with information about their programs and Summer school. Also included is a brief bibliography, video list, and links to other related sites. Site devoted to William Morris that includes many examples of his writing and design work. Very useful are bibliographies, information on places where Morris lived and worked, collections that house his work, and links to other Victorian sites. |
