Bard High School Early College II
Faculty Position - Computer Science

Bard High School Early College II, a new school created by Bard College and the New York City Department of Education, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Division of Science and Mathematics beginning Fall 2008. BHSEC II seeks a teachers and scholar deeply committed to the field and creative in engaging students at both the college and high school levels with its delights and challenges.

The first Bard High School Early College, named the Outstanding Public High School in New York City by the Blackboard Awards 2007, is a national model for the education of adolescents, enabling talented and highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an Associate in Arts degree from Bard College, as well as a New York State Regents Diploma. BHSEC II will bring the same model to Queens and will be headed by Valeri Thomson, a research scientist with experience at Bard College and Rockefeller University.

The successful applicant will teach a range of college-level computer science courses and will play a central role in our mission of integrating computing throughout the college and high school curricula, with particular focus on the importance of computing for contemporary scientific research.

In addition, all BHSEC faculty participate actively in the life of the school, advising students, serving on committees, or sponsoring extracurricular activities. Ph.D. and college teaching experience strongly preferred; high school teaching experience desirable.
