Bard High School Early College II
Faculty Positions - Mathematics
Bard High School Early College II, a new school created by Bard College and the New York City Department of Education, invites applications for full-time faculty positions in the Division of Science and Mathematics beginning Fall 2008. BHSEC II seeks teachers and scholars deeply committed to their field and creative in engaging students at both the college and high school levels with its delights and challenges.
The first Bard High School Early College, named the Outstanding Public High School in New York City by the Blackboard Awards 2007, is a national model for the education of adolescents, enabling talented and highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an Associate in Arts degree from Bard College, as well as a New York State Regents Diploma. BHSEC II will bring the same model to Queens and will be headed by Valeri Thomson, a research scientist with experience at Bard College and Rockefeller University.
Successful applicants will teach a range of college-level mathematics courses, including a calculus sequence for prospective majors and scientists, statistics and applied math for those going on in social studies and the humanities, and advanced electives as needed. They will also teach in our innovative high school mathematics program designed to engage students with the principles of mathematics and to move them through the basic high school mathematics curriculum in two years.
In addition, all BHSEC faculty participate actively in the life of the school, advising students, serving on committees, or sponsoring extracurricular activities. Ph.D. and college teaching experience strongly preferred; high school teaching experience desirable.
To apply, send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy or teaching portfolio, and three letters of recommendation to
