Social Studies - One Year Position - US History and Social Studies - Non-Western
Bard High School Early College, a partnership between Bard College and the New
York City Department of Education, invites applications for a full-time, one year
replacement faculty position in the Social Studies department, beginning
September 2008. The successful applicant will teach the Americas, a 9th grade
survey of United States history and teach college electives in U.S. history.
BHSEC, a national model in the field of public school reform, enables talented and
highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the
first two years of college, earning an Associate of Arts degree from Bard College
as well as a high school diploma. The academic program emphasizes small class
size and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body.
The successful applicant for this position should be committed to innovative
teaching to prepare students for college level studies. In addition, candidates will
be expected to participate fully in the life of the school, including advising students
and serving on committees and/or clubs.

Faculty
in the Social Studies
Bard High School Early College, a partnership of Bard College and the
New York City Department of Education, invites applications for a
full-time faculty position in the Department of Social Studies
beginning Fall 2008, budget pending. BHSEC, a national model in the
field of public education reform, enables talented and highly motivated
students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first
two years of college, earning an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from
Bard College as well as a high school diploma. The academic program
emphasizes small class size and a commitment to teaching a diverse
student body in a liberal arts environment.
The Department of Social Studies seeks to expand its college elective
offerings into disciplines we do not currently cover (Anthropology or
Sociology) and/or into non-Western fields (African, Asian or Middle
Eastern Studies). The successful candidate will teach the 10th grade
Global Studies course as well as college electives and seminars in his
or her field of expertise. In addition, candidates will be expected to
participate fully in the life of the school, including advising
students and serving on committees. Preference will be given to
candidates whose training and research are interdisciplinary and
cross-cultural. A Ph.D. in hand is preferred; doctoral candidates
nearing completion of their degrees will be considered as well. College
teaching experience is required.
The position offers the opportunity to work as a member of a dedicated
faculty, most of whom hold doctorates in their fields. Salary is
competitive, commensurate with experience. Qualified and interested

college level psychology to a younger student body. In addition,
candidates will be expected to participate fully in the life of the

Full-Time Information
Technology Officer
The
Bard High School Early College Programs seeks a successful candidate
for the newly created position of Information Technology
Officer. This person will develop and manage a business
process analysis that identifies in detail the data and computer
systems needs of Bard High School Early College Programs in Manhattan
and Queens, carry out detailed analysis of the extent to which BHSEC’s
system needs may be met through utilization of software applications
required by the NYC DoE and those maintained by Bard College. The
candidate will prepare, oversee implementation & manage a
detailed development and implementation plan for management’s review
and approval. The Officer will train faculty and staff &
oversee all technology at the two schools, supervising technology
staff, oversee academic and instructional technology, administrative
technology, network technology, user support services, multimedia
development, instructional multimedia services, hardware maintenance
and repair. The officer will lead in development of long range
technology plans, oversee email & web technologies and develop
budgets for technology initiative at both schools.
As chief information officer for the BHSEC programs, the successful
candidate will coordinate the BHSEC information and technology needs
with the DoE’s & Bard College’s resources and requirements. The
officer will also develop & supervise the data collection
& reporting for both high schools. Effective verbal and written
communications/presentation skills, a commitment to participatory
management and teamwork, experience in learning software systems
quickly, developing functional specifications for systems,
accomplishing given programmatic needs, preferably in the education
domain are essential for this position. Preference given to candidates
with specific experience carrying out the full life cycle of system
development, a familiarity with Oracle Banner software, Daedulus, or
any of the NYC DOE systems (i.e., ARIS, HSST, ATS) also preferred. The
successful candidate must have experience in information systems
management, computer science, information science and technology in a
college or high school setting. Master’s degree preferred.
