Friends
of BHSEC: Giving to Bard High School Early College
To maintain the small classes and support the excellent faculty that
make the Bard High School Early College program so outstanding costs
money—more than the New York City Department of Education provides.
The college text books, library, science labs, tutoring and college
transfer services available to our early college students costs even
more. Indeed, Bard College and Bard High School Early College need to
raise almost $1.8 million annually—or $3000 per early college
student—to accomplish our mission of equipping our broadly diverse but
highly motivated students for upper level college work by the time they
graduate.
Our
model works—our students are
highly engaged with their studies and find that they are “more than
prepared” for the rigors of advanced college work. We ask that you
engage with us as well by contributing today to help sustain this
successful educational enterprise that is preparing the leaders of
tomorrow. 50% of your contribution will be earmarked for an endowment
established for the specific purpose of hiring adjunct college faculty
for the early college program.
This year, because of the decrease in foundation giving to BHSEC, ALL
donations from current parents to the Friends of BHSEC will go to pay
for current operating expenses, including all adjunct faculty (who this
year teach economics, psychology, Spanish, visual arts, ethics, and
dance), as well as for college texts and other necessary needs.
