Bard has a FreeUse store where we stock gently used clothing, dishes, and office supplies generated from other places on campus, and open when classes are in session. This service is for Bard faculty, staff, and students, as well as employees of Chartwells.
All items from your nearest recycling station's blue bin go to the FreeUse garage.
- Nearly everything is free for any Bard community members to take
- No large furniture (tell firstname.lastname@example.org if you have office furniture you no longer need)
- Be considerate with donations (wrap things that might break, label them if there is a defect)
- Please do not bring items from off-campus (bring those items to Kingston's Salvation Army, Goodwill or another source. This program aims to reduce Bard's contributions to the landfill and is not a solution for items you might no longer want from your off campus home. We occasionally make exceptions and welcome certain items seasonlly by special request (kitchen ware, winter coats)
Kappa House Garage (north of the Rugby field)Where Not?
Kappa House (people live there)
Open 9am-9pm, 7 days a week when regular classes are in session
During school breaks - student workers are not here to manage and clean so the store is closed
What will we take?
Items you no longer want that someone else might want. That might be something that is useful for its original purpose, but sometimes it can be used for parts or parts of it can be salvaged (think cut off jeans and felting projects from 'ruined' sweaters). We sometimes take broken electronics that can be disassembled for art projects but ask that you label them as broken. What don't we want?
Prescription medicine (you can bring that to the Village Police drop box), broken glass (do we really have to say that?), underpants and things that are just not salvagable or re-usable without extensive effort.
Note: Wash clothes before you wear them
