Welcome from the ISO!
Bard has a large international
student community, which comprises almost 16% of the student body
representing 45 different countries! In
the past decades, Bard has been increasingly committed to diversifying
campus life, and the international students are one of the major
contributors to the intellectual and cultural diversity we enjoy
at Bard.
The International Student Organization (ISO) celebrates
awareness of diverse cultures, and fosters a strong sense of
community among the
international students and facilitates dialogue within the
campus at large. The ISO promotes awareness in a variety of ways.
Both the Cultural Show and the yearly Food Festival showcase the
festivities,
food and culture from many different countries. For pure fun, the
ISO Formal, which takes place each semester, is hard to beat. On
a more
academic level, the ISO has held movie series, panel discussions
and hosted lectures on international affairs. We think it is fundamentally
important for students to be pro-active in their experience at Bard,
and have encouraged ISO members to be active in all areas of campus
life.
Being an international student at Bard has many
advantages. Not only do we experience American culture, we also have
the opportunity
to
live in the midst of a diverse international community. The international
community at Bard is an important resource for incoming international
students. Adjusting to the Bard community can be a challenge in several
ways for international students. Many of us find the individuality
that is an integral part of Bard life is effectively offset by the
international community, which provides a solid sense of social and
academic support.
College is an exciting time. We wish you luck in
your decision process and hope that you will decide to come to Bard!
