Bard CCE Projects

The Center for Civic Engagement's network of partner institutions, programs, and exchanges reflects the original and entrepreneurial spirit of the organization. The Center for Civic Engagement is committed to advancing the ideals of a liberal arts education through a myriad of opportunities across the globe. CCE's endeavors in the United States and abroad demonstrate a commitment to innovation, a willingness to take risks, and a conviction in the power of higher education.

Student-Led Initiatives

Students in the Trustee Leader Scholar Program (TLS) propose, design, and implement civic engagement projects based on their own passionate interests.  The hallmark of the TLS program is an unwavering belief in each student’s ability to take complete ownership of his or her own work.  More >>

Student Opportunities

CCE coordinates with numerous partners both on campus,  off-campus, stateside, and abroad, to generate numerous internship opportunities. Additionally, CCE spearheads the Community Action Awards. These awards provide funding for more than 50 students annually who are pursuing pre-professional experience and community action projects.

Local Partnerships

CCE works closely with local partners to provide students with opportunities for work, internships, and civic engagement in the Hudson Valley. Projects address real issues facing our communities, including poverty, sustainability, education, and immigration. More >>

International Partnerships

Bard’s partnerships with universities abroad are true joint ventures, committed to expanding the reach of a liberal education. These collaborations provide innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to education and new methods of teaching.  Many of Bard's international partners also offer study abroad opportunities for U.S. students. More >>

Transforming Secondary Education

Bard is a leader in early college and teacher education, with affiliated institutions and programs in Massachusetts, New York City, Newark, New Orleans, California, and the West Bank. More >>

Reimagining Prison Education

The Bard Prison Initiative (BPI) creates the opportunity for incarcerated men and women to earn a Bard College degree while serving their sentences, operating a network of six satellite campuses across New York State. More >>

Innovations in Science and Sustainability

The Center for Civic Engagement and Bard engage students in significant efforts in science and sustainability, address environmental challenges, and provide education reform in the sciences. The College offers rigorous, interdisciplinary science training to equip students with the knowledge required of tomorrow's leaders. More >>

Engaged Liberal Arts and Sciences

With the Engaged Liberal Arts and Sciences model, a significant portion of learning takes place outside of the classroom: students learn through engagement with different geographies, organizations, and programs in the surrounding communities or in the national and international venues in which CCE is involved.
