Local Initiatives

The Center for Civic Engagement's extensive work with local partners benefits our community and our students. Partners throughout the region provide work, internships, and the opportunity for student engagement. These collaborations address real issues facing the Hudson Valley including poverty, sustainability, education, and immigration.

Elections at Bard

Elections at Bard facilitates voter registration for local students, provides information, hosts forums in which candidates and students can meet, and protects the rights of students to vote. Visit the site.

Dream to Achieve

DTA works with at-risk and under-resourced students in local communities to build academic achievement and success. We provide students with engaging and educational experiences and programs. Visit the site.

West Point−Bard Exchange

The West Point−Bard Exchange allows students and faculty from Bard and the United States Military Academy to exchange ideas in classrooms, public presentations, and informal settings. Visit the site.

Native Peoples on Bard's Lands

In winter 2013-14 eight Rhinebeck middle school students formed an Anthropology Club to work with Bardians in Prof Christopher Lindner’s class on field and lab methods on Ancient Americans.  Expand for more. Expand

Bard Math Circle

The Bard Math Circle is a mathematics enrichment program for upper elementary and middle school students, families, and teachers. Visit the site.

Bard Farm

The Bard Farm is a sustainable urban farm that organically grows fruits and vegetables. Located on Bard’s campus and worked by students, the farm demonstrates the realities of small-scale farming and the potential for community to develop around food. Visit the site.

Hudson Valley Science Outreach

Growing from the Citizen Science Program, Hudson Valley Science Outreach is the overarching program that coordinates free science mentoring, tutoring and after-school activities in six local school districts.

Red Hook Together

Red Hook Together works with Bard College, the Red Hook Chamber of Commerce, the school district, and the towns and villages of Red Hook and Tivoli who share a vision to enhance the lives of those who live, work, and study in Red Hook.
