Speakers Series : Chris Kraus

September 20, 2017 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
CCS Bard, Classroom 102

Chris Kraus will read from her new book After Kathy Acker, a literary biography and summoning of the late writer, who died at age 50 in 1997.  Kraus will talk about biography-as-fiction, investigative narrative, and other strategies.  As Catherine Lacey writes in the New Statesman : “To pin down the real Kathy Acker then is a self-defeating task but Chris Kraus’s biography of her is a brilliant and necessary thing. There is a wonderful ambivalence between subject and object here, which wires up a tension throughout this incredibly well-researched book.”

Chris Kraus is the author of four novels and two books of art and cultural criticism.  She has written for Granta, The New York Times, The New Yorker, Artforum, Animal Shelter, and other magazines.  Her latest book is After Kathy Acker, a literary biography.  Kraus is a co-editor of the independent press Semiotexte.  She lives in LA.

All talks in the Speakers Series are free and open to the public.
