Application Instructions*
The following items should be submitted with your application:- A personal statement written by the applicant of not more than 600 words addressing your career interests in relation to an environmental policy issue or problem. Please include your name on each page.
- A sample of written work (for example, college research paper, published article, professional work such as briefs, information for media, grant proposals) with title and date of composition noted. Please include your name on each page.
- A curriculum vitae with applicant's education, current and previous employment, computer skills, and experience, if any, in an environmentally related field.
- Three letters of recommendation (see below for instructions on how to register your recommenders using Embark)
- A nonrefundable application fee of $65.00, payable online with a valid credit card or electronic check, or with a check or money order to Bard College and mailed to the address above.
The following should be mailed to the Bard Center for Environmental Policy:
- Official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions attended. (Please note: transcripts are considered official only if they are sent directly to the Bard Center for Environmental Policy from the issuing institution. Copies sent by the applicant must bear the signature of the registrar of the issuing institution across the back flap of the sealed envelope.)
- Graduate Record Examination scores. The Bard College school code is 2037. There is no departmental code. GRE scores are required of all applicants who completed undergraduate studies later than 2001. For those applying to the joint M.S./J.D. program with Pace Law School, LSAT scores are acceptable in lieu of GRE scores.
- Letters of Recommendation. The Bard Center for Environmental Policy accepts letters of recommendation through the Embark online application system. When prompted in Step 4: Recommendations, enter the recommender's name and email. The recommender will receive an email with details instructions on how to submit his/her recommendation online. The status of recommendation letters can be viewed by logging back into Embark once the application is submitted. Letters of recommendation are also accepted on paper, on official forms. The letters should be addressed to the Graduate Admission Committee, signed across the sealed flaps, and sent directly to the Bard Center for Environmental Policy by the authors.
Non-Native Speakers of English
Non-native speakers of English must demonstrate proficiency in English and should take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). TOEFL scores should be sent to the Bard Center for Environmental Policy by the Educational Testing Service. The Bard College school code is 2037. A minimum score of 600 on the written test or 250 on the computer-based test is required for admission. Other evidence of English-language proficiency will be accepted only with the approval of the Graduate Admission Committee.
