Bard CEP seeks motivated candidates from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds. Our selection committee considers academic performance, GRE scores, statement of purpose, general writing skills, relevant work experience, and faculty and employer evaluations. Applicants are expected to have demonstrated leadership potential, a commitment to environmental issues, and an aptitude for graduate study. Quantitative literacy and working knowledge of spreadsheets is required. Bard CEP offers competitive merit fellowships, project assistantships, and campus employment opportunities to qualified candidates.

Prerequisites

Applicants must have successfully completed (earning a B- or better) courses in math and science prior to matriculation. Students lacking any of the prerequisite courses listed below are encouraged to apply for admission, and if accepted will work with the admission staff to identify the right courses to fill these gaps before entering the program.

  • college algebra (or the equivalent)
  • two physical or natural science courses (designed for science majors)
  • statistics

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of Bard CEP's programs, there are no specific requirements concerning the applicant's prior field of study. Work experience, internships and volunteering in the environmental field are recommended, but not required.

Admission, Dual Degrees

MS/JD with Pace Law School
Students must apply separately to both programs. Students apply normally to one of the two M.S. degrees offered at Bard and then apply to Pace at the same time or during their first year of study at Bard. CEP will accept LSAT scores in place of GREs for dual degree candidates. To do so, applicants must notify the Pace Admissions Office and have their LSAT scores sent to CEP.MS/MAT with Bard MAT
Students pursuing an MS and MAT from Bard must apply be accepted to both programs. However, acceptance into each program is determined individually, and does not affect the applicant's standing in the other program. Entry into this joint degree program requires permission from both program directors.
3+2
Bard
Qualified Bard students apply during the their junior year to begin at CEP in their fourth year. Completion of Bard distribution requirements, successful moderation into a program of study, and approval from their undergraduate advisor is required to qualify. Interested students should inquire at CEP as soon as possible to ensure they meet all entry requirements. Permission from the Dean of Studies is also required. Interested students apply normally to the M.S. degree of their choice.

Applicants must consult with their home institution to determine transfer credits for Bard graduate classes, both for counting towards graduation and towards a major or minor before matriculating at Bard. Students apply normally to the M.S. degree of their choice.

MS/MBA with Bard MBA in Sustainability
Students should apply separately to both programs, but our admission office can share official transcripts, letters of recommendation, and test scores. Students should contact us to make sure we are aware they are applying to this dual degree program so that we know to share admissions documents and waive one of the two application fees. Applicants accepted to both programs will defer MBA admission by submitting a $500 deposit to both CEP and MBA.

Admission, Peace Corps Programs

Master's International Program
Applicants should first apply to Bard CEP, and once accepted, apply to the Peace Corps as an MI applicant. Acceptance into each program is determined individually, and does not affect the applicant's standing in the other program. MI applicants should follow the admission guidelines for the M.S. degree of their choice.
Paul D. Coverdell Program
Applicants apply normally to one of our M.S. degree programs, but will also submit an official Description of Service to be eligible for the Peace Corps Fellowship. In the event that an applicant is still overseas when applying to our program, an unofficial description of service will suffice for the application, but an official one is required to secure the fellowship.
