Dr. Eleanor Sterling Answers Sea Turtle Questions for NY Times

Last month we posted CEP adjunct professor Dr. Eleanor Sterling’s article on NYTimes.com’s “Scientists at Work” blog about her work in the isolated Northern Pacific atoll (a special kind of island) called Palmyra Atoll. A Q&A was recently posted on their blog, in which she answers readers’ questions about sea turtles. Why does she only track male turtles with satellite tags? Are these tags causing impotence? Is a herpes virus spreading tumors in the turtle population? And is one mysterious turtle telling us he’s from Hawaii, or just saying “HI”? All this and more.

But the real treasure is the video of her research team releasing a sea turtle on this beautiful desert atoll.
