As we move further into the internship season, I wanted to just quickly remind you how important it is to send a thank you letter right after you’ve had any kind of an interview, even just an informational one.
The letter should go out immediately (within 24 hours), and it should be brief:
(1) you should thank the interviewer for taking the time to meet with you,
(2) you should reiterate your interest in the position, post-interview, and stress the reasons you’re a strong candidate,
(3) (optional) you should mention information about your qualifications you didn’t have a chance to bring up in the interview, and
(4) you should close by thanking the interviewer again and stating that you hope to hear from him/her soon
I like the templates, samples, and formatting suggestions on this website: http://jobsearch.about.com/od/thankyouletters/a/samplethankyou.htm If you keep scrolling down, you’ll find samples of thank yous for internship interviews.
