Dr. Mara Ranville to Climate Change Conference in Tbilisi

Bard CEP Assistant Professor of Environmental Science, Dr. Mara Ranville, attended an international conference on “Climate Change Curricula in Higher Education” from June 7-9, 2010, in Tbilisi, Georgia.  The conference was intended to establish new international collaborations in climate change education; foster international comparisons and exchanges of curricula and pedagogical approaches on climate change; and develop new curricular materials based on discussions and field observations.

Dr. Ranville gave a talk entitled “Interdisciplinary Education at the Bard Center for Environmental Policy”, in which she described Bard CEP’s unique thematic first-year curriculum, and discussed its applicability to the teaching of subjects such as global climate change.  115 educators from the U.S., Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia participated.  The conference was sponsored by the U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation, the National Council for Science and the Environment, the Climate Literacy & Awareness Network, and the Georgian Research and Development Foundation, with funding from the National Science Foundation and the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
