SPECIAL TIME 4PM

Call Date: April 4, 2011

McKie Campbell , Republican Staff Director for the Senate Energy
and Natural Resources Committee

McKie Campbell A veteran of Alaska politics, Campbell assists his boss, GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski, in seeking an often-elusive middle ground on energy and environmental issues. They hope to promote energy conservation while boosting oil and gas drilling; at the same time, they want to slow global warming by ramping up production of nuclear power. Murkowski, who is top Republican on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, is more moderate on the subject than other Westerners in her party who want to concentrate chiefly on increased drilling. But Murkowski also is the latest in a line of GOP lawmakers who argue that nuclear power has too often been overlooked in energy debates.Campbell (whose first name is pronounced Mc-KY) seeks to work closely with lawmakers on Energy and Natural Resources and their staffs while encouraging them to keep an open mind about what can be done. "Someone asked me, 'What's the greatest challenge in your job?'" he said. "The answer is, too much theology and not enough analysis. There are an awful lot of folks who know what they believe in and who aren't interested in examining what might be contrary to it." (1
