BCEP Professor Jennifer Phillips interviewed on Wisconsin Public Radio




January 31, 2008 - Professor Jennifer Phillips, BCEP professor and specialist in farming systems, was interviewed along with Mark Bittman of the New York Times on WPR Radio of Wisconsin today. The program highlighted the article by Bittman that appeared in last Sunday's NYT titled "Meat Guzzlers" on the environmental impacts of meat consumption. Phillips, an agronomist by training and grassfed livestock farmer in Columbia County, mentioned work published by BCEP graduates on the amount of fossil fuel required to raise feedlot beef compared to grassfed meat. Other topics covered included the role of corn ethanol in environmental deterioration and world-wide grain price inflation, soil carbon sequestration in pasture based farming systems, and the importance of eating local.
