Master's International student, Kristine Pierce, to be coastal resource management worker in Phillipines
Kristine Pierce, MI '12, will be leaving in August for her Peace Corps service in the Philippines where she will be a coastal resource management extension worker. The objective of her assignment is to "promote appropriate practices aimed at restoring, conserving and strengthening coastal and marine exosystems in [her] assigned municipality or city." She will be involved in planning workshops, socio-economic surveys of coastal communities, biophysical surveys of coastal communities, training local coast guard and fisherfolk in surveys and monitoring, identifying and strengthening marine protected areas, monitoring fish catch, organizing environmental education...the list goes on! Her assignment involves fieldwork and office work.
We are very excited for Kristine and wish her the very best in her preparations for her long awaited trip overseas!
