Responsibilities:

  Lead major new state program initiative examining climate change vulnerability and preparedness

  Design and direct a wide variety of data-driven, quantitative vulnerability and impacts assessments across multiple impacts in a number of different states

  Produce a series of reports detailing the findings of these analyses

  Work collaboratively with team of climate scientists, analysts, and communications professionals to ensure that the results of these analyses generate substantial media interest and meet communications and public education objectives

  Develop relationships with influential scientists and other experts in key states

  Represent the organization in key meetings and other fora and communicate the principle findings of the project to the media and other important audiences in the states and nationally

  Oversee team of analysts and communications professionals. Responsible for hiring, training, goal-setting, and assessing performance of direct reports.

Qualifications:

  MS or higher in climate science or related field

  Eight to ten years management experience leading relevant research programs, demonstrating an increasing level of authority and leadership

  Five years’ experience in climate science or closely related field

  Experience in quantitative data analysis

  Strong written and verbal communications skills

Climate Campaign Manager, Climate Solutions – Washington

Description: The Washington climate campaign, a coalition of environmental, business, labor, and community organizations based in Seattle seeks a Campaign Manager for a period of no less than 8 months with a possibility of up to a two year project timeline.

The West Coast Climate Campaign, of which the Washington campaign is a part, demonstrates that the West Coast can catalyze an economy-wide transition from fossil fuels to a more just, sustainable, and prosperous economy powered by clean energy. Washingtonians and Oregonians are joining CA and BC to dramatically cut climate pollution, expand the middle class, establish working, replicable models of climate solutions, and drive change on large-scale climate and clean energy action at the national level. Given the stranglehold the fossil fuel industry has inside the Beltway, the way we will force action on one of the greatest threats of our time is through the states leading.

Our policy goals are to secure passage of legislation to reduce carbon pollution in Washington, to enact a Clean Fuels Standard for Washington, and to transition Washington off imported coal power. Combined, these actions will expand a vibrant clean energy economy in the region that creates good jobs. Along the way, we are setting benchmarks for success, including: list and grassroots capacity building; raising public awareness and support; increasing non-traditional support for climate action; and educating press, legislators, business and community leaders on the opportunities presented by reducing carbon pollution in Washington.

Responsibilities: At the hub of this effort will be a Campaign Manager. This individual will be responsible for:

 Writing the overall campaign plan, and updating it as circumstances change.

 Day to day oversight of campaign activities, including field, earned media, coalition building, and

general outreach and partner engagement activities.

 Maintenance of campaign task list and deliverables.

 Coordination with press, legislative, field and policy staff from partner organizations to assure

timeliness and consistency of message and expectations.

 Coordination with consultants and lobbyists to maintain strategic focus and key benchmarks for

campaign and legislative activity.

 Coalition management including meeting coordination, electronic and other regular

communications, and stakeholder engagement.

 Other tasks as needed.

 

Qualifications: Ideally, the successful applicant possesses:

 5+ years of hands on campaign experience, whether political or issue-based.

 Strong organizational skills.

Ability to work with minimal day to day supervision.

 Ability to adopt a collaborative leadership approach with a large professional team, at times

taking direction and giving direction.

This is a senior management position, and this individual will serve as part of the Campaign’s growingstrategic and executive team structure. The Director of Climate Central’s Program on Sea Level Rise will advance the program’s strategic direction and engineer its growth under the overall leadership and reporting to the Vice President for Sea Level and Climate Impacts. Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with VP for Sea Level and Climate Impacts to develop and advance program strategic direction
  • Manage all aspects of sea level rise program operations, including budget, staffing, and team management and development
  • Lead implementation of domestic program to achieve major U.S. media coverage and spur use of the program’s analysis and tools by local, state and federal governments

The Center works in partnership with stakeholders from agricultural, urban, and rural settings to identify and address regional priorities for research, education, and outreach.

Responsibilities: The Extension Support Specialist will assist with StopPests in Housing Program, based at the Northeastern Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Center, which strives to improve pest control in affordable housing by teaching everyone who works, lives, and plays in housing how to use integrated pest management (IPM). The Extension Support Specialist will engage, coach, and train participating affordable housing providers. Contribute to the goals of Cornell University’s Cooperative Extension to strengthen communities and address housing conditions that threaten human health.

The Extension Support Specialist will contact designated housing providers as well as establish the status of their IPM program. Build relationships with fellow trainers, governmental agencies and Regional IPM centers. Collect and update records of contacts through the management system. Provide technical assistance as-needed to prepare for an on-site IPM training. Coordinate with co-trainers and local support agencies to set up on-site trainings. Arrange training logistics with the housing provider and meal logistics with the caterer. Travel to trainings and conduct on-site training with a co-trainer, using the already established Multifamily Housing Training. Collect feedback on the training and prepare it for analysis and reporting. Provide technical assistance to participating housing providers via email and conference calls. Assess the success of each housing providers’ IPM program. Contribute to a final report. Attend training and expansion of skills through participation in job-related courses, seminars and workshops. Exercise fiscal accountability.

Qualifications: Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree. More than three but less than five years of relevant experience in education, entomology, IPM, Cooperative Extension, or a closely related field.
  • Ability to meet the travel requirements of the job; possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities: Under supervision of the Center Director, provide grants and proposals coordination. Up to 40 percent of all food in the U.S. goes uneaten. This has severe economic, social, and environmental implications, including the loss of  vast natural resources used to produce, transport, cool, and then dispose of that food. In addition, a 60 percent increase in food demand is predicted as we move towards a future with a larger population and richer diets.  Just as energy efficiency has been embraced as a method for offsetting energy needs, reducing waste and losses in the food system offers a way to meet some of that future food demand, offsetting the pressure to convert more land to agriculture or intensify cropland production further.

Responsibilities: The NRDC Food and Agriculture Program is working on multiple fronts to address this problem.  Our approach is a combination of engagement with the food industry, public education through reports, press, and other media campaigns, and policy solutions.

We now seek an Advocate to expand our team.  Together with other NRDC staff, the Advocate will:

  • Help our team design and win federal and municipal policies that will lead to reduced food loss and waste.
  • Provide subject expertise and project management for a broad national public education campaign to help consumers reduce food waste.
  • Provide research, analysis, blogs, written comments and testimony to educate policymakers, media representatives and consumers about this issue.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for NRDC at meetings and with the press.

National Wolf Campaign Director, Endangered Species Coalition – Washington, DC

Description: The Wolf Campaign Director will implement the Endangered Species Coalition’s national wolf campaign and will be responsible for overseeing ESC’s wolf campaign field organizers and interns across the country.   • You will build relationships with key policy and community leaders in the environmental community and serve as ESC’s liaison to these experts.
  • You will support field staff by informing them—through emails, staff calls, news articles, etc—about ongoing political developments relating to the Wolf Campaign.
  • You will build relationships with key congressional staff and congressional members focusing on issues important to ESC and our member groups.
  • You will research grassroots campaign opportunities that do not center on federal legislation; examples include corporate practices, individual habitats and species protections, trade association policies, state-level legislation, municipal resolutions, etc.
  • You will implement ESC’s national-level campaign strategies.
  • You will serve as the point of contact and supervisor for wolf volunteers and assign them to appropriate projects (e.g., signature gathering, tabling, generating event turn-out, etc.).
  • You will work with ESC staff and tech consultants to implement online campaigns and development strategies.

Qualifications: Work Experience: Three or more years’ experience in advocacy campaigning, preferably with experience in grassroots organizing. Wildlife conservation experience a plus. Experience leading campaigns, meeting with decision makers, and working with coalitions, members, activists, and volunteers.

Skills: Excellent oral and written communications skills. Strong interpersonal skills, strong facilitator skills, and demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills. Good time-management, personal organization, and prioritization skills. Very high comfort level speaking on the phone and effectively communicating by email.

Capabilities: Ability to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with individuals from diverse organizations and with a range of perspectives. Lakes and Ponds programs are multifaceted (involving monitoring, assessment, outreach, technical assistance, permitting and funding) and interact substantially with lake associations and lake users, as well as NGOs, other state and federal government programs, and lake-related businesses.

Responsibilities: Planning, analytical and environmental work at an advanced professional level for the Department of Environmental Conservation. Duties involve complex tasks in the technical review and analysis of environmental policies, programs, activities and data in a variety of regulatory, non-regulatory, and technical programs. Duties entail the collection and analysis of environmental data, evaluation of conceptual plans for environmental investigation, and the preparation, execution and evaluation of environmental studies. Duties may include administrative and general supervisory work, which is limited to project team management. Work involves independence in assuring completion of work assignments; and responsibility and accountability for work performed by project teams. Provides expertise in a specialized environmental technology elements or programs, which is not duplicated in the Department. Position differs from a lower level analyst in the number and complexity of assigned responsibilities. Work is performed under the general direction of a section supervisor or division director.

Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who have both a solid knowledge of lake management science as well as experience in program and personnel management Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, or an environmental or natural resources field AND six (6) years or more at a professional level in an environmental or natural resources field.  OR Master’s degree in an environmental or natural resources field AND four (4) years or more at a professional level in an environmental or natural resources field.  OR One (1) year or more of experience as an Environmental Analyst VI or two (2) years or more as an Environmental Analyst V.
