Job Title: Environmental Educator

Location: Aspen, Basalt, Colorado

Hours and Compensation: One school-year. Start date is August 13th, 2012 and ends approximately June, 2013. The option to apply for a second year is available. This is a full-time position for the school-year. Pay is $260 a week with additional compensation based on experience and education.

Organization Overview

The Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES), a nationally recognized leader in environmental education for people of all ages, seeks Environmental Educators for two of its sites, Rock Bottom Ranch and Hallam Lake. An interested applicant may apply for one, or both positions.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities for Hallam Lake Environmental Educator:
Teach non-residential, environmental education programs for local preschool through high school students at ACES’ Hallam Lake Nature Preserve and other sites. Teach at Aspen Elementary School’s K-4 environmental education in a solar-powered, strawbale, environmental education building. Develop and document lessons and create teaching materials for outdoor and classroom environmental education programs. Assist with nature center maintenance, resident animal care, interpretive exhibits, and other projects. Visit the school programs section for more information about ACES’ education program.

Responsibilities for Rock Bottom Ranch Environmental Educator:
Teach non-residential, environmental education programs for local preschool through high school students at ACES’ Rock Bottom Ranch and other sites. Teach Basalt and Carbondale K-4 environmental education classes. Develop and document lessons and create teaching materials for outdoor and classroom environmental education programs. Assist with ranch maintenance, farm animal care, interpretive exhibits, and other projects. Visit the school programs section for more information about ACES’ education program.

Qualifications/Skills

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in the natural sciences, education, teaching, or environmental/agriculture education. Candidates with both natural science and teaching experience preferred. Minimum of two years cumulative outdoor and/or classroom teaching experience, especially elementary school. Experience developing environmental education curriculum and teaching aids. Self-motivated, team-oriented, creative, and organized. Experience with Macintosh computers helpful.
