Hours and Compensation: Full time, Starting compensation will be $42,000 per year, with generous retirement, vacation and health benefits. Scheduled pay raises occur at six months and one year.

Organization Overview

The Iowa Policy Project is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 2001 to conduct research and analysis on policy issues of critical importance to the citizens of Iowa. IPP work focuses on tax and budget issues, the Iowa economy, and energy and environmental policy. We are seeking a policy analyst to focus on budget and tax issues.

Responsibilities

The person’s primary responsibility will be contributing to IPP research on budget and tax issues. Researchers are expected to work on several research projects during the year and to be available to contribute to more than one area of IPP research. The research associate is expected to participate in follow-up and outreach activities related to his or her work, which could include responding to questions from the media and policy makers and making presentations to community groups, state advocacy organizations, and legislative committees. The researcher is also expected to participate with other staff in reviewing reports and in identifying new areas of research and sources of funding.

Qualifications

Applicants should have the ability to conduct research and to write and communicate clearly to varied audiences. An MA or MS in economics, public policy, planning or a related social science field is preferred. Persons with a BA and significant experience in social science research or public policy analysis will be considered. Desirable qualifications include strong statistical skills, education or experience relating to budget analysis, economic policy and/or health policy. Experience working with census and labor market data would be helpful.
