The Research and Policy team identifies technologies that save energy, develops standardized test procedures for those products, and assists government agencies, companies, and utilities in developing energy efficiency specifications. It also designs programs to accelerate market adoption of the most energy efficient products.

Ecova is seeking to fill a Research and Policy Intern position in the Durango, Colorado office. As a member of the Research and Policy team, you will participate in cutting-edge technical and policy research on energy efficiency that has a decisive impact on government policies. You will develop relationships with colleagues who are highly-regarded as experts in their field whose work at the intersection of energy and environmental issues can help you shape a meaningful career.
Responsibilities:

In the Research and Policy Internship role, you will be participating in precedent-setting research on energy efficiency of consumer electronics and appliances. This role may include:

  • Performing literature reviews and background research on new and highly technical topics
  • Measuring, collecting and analyzing of power draw and usage patterns for various products
  • Investigating product market trends
  • Gathering information from stakeholders via telephone
  • Building and operating complex spreadsheets
  • Communicating research findings in a highly visual way
  • Presenting research findings in the form of written deliverables and/or PowerPoint

Qualifications:

As our ideal candidate, you should have completed either at least one year of graduate education in an environmental and energy and/or engineering field of study or at least three years of undergraduate education in an environmental and energy and/or engineering field of study.  Preferred coursework and experience in: physics, chemistry, electronics or programming, and environmental policy. You should have a strong background in science or engineering and have demonstrated lab or field measurement and data analysis experience. In addition, you should have a strong ability to communicate technical subjects to lay audiences, both in written and verbal form. The ability to work well both independently and with a team is essential.
