Organization Overview:

Science Club for Girls (SCFG) increases the self-confidence and literacy in science, technology, engineering and mathematics of girls from underrepresented groups through free programs that focus on hands-on activities, mentorship and leadership opportunities. Our staff is a dedicated team of independent thinkers and excellent communicators, each with their own strengths to share with the group: from engineering to environmental science, from youth development to leadership and community building. We seek skilled, flexible and motivated team players who have a passion for changing the face of science and want to contribute to and learn from our team and the girls and young women we work with.

Description: 

The K-5 Program Director (PD) oversees the Science Clubs and Vacation week programs for kindergarten through 5th grade girls. The PD assists with the development and refinement of training, curricula, evaluation and operations of these programs to meet standards of quality, efficiency, and scalability. The PD reports to the Senior Program Director, and is a member of the program leadership team, consisting of the Volunteer Programs Manager, Teen Program Director, and Director of Program Operations.

Responsibilities:

Program Development

  • Manage coordinated annual plan for K-5 programs and related events
  • Oversee development of new or revision of existing STEM curricula
  • Revise and create policies and procedures relevant to program safety

Program Implementation

  • Hire, train and coach the K-5 program managers on best practices in out-of-school-time youth development, classroom management, volunteer support, and STEM teaching and learning
  • Work with Teen Program Director to ensure Teen Mentor program goals are met as integrated into Science Clubs
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Programs Manager to plan, coordinate, and deliver training

Program Assessment

  • Conduct regular site visits to Science Clubs and Vacation Week Program
  • In collaboration with Program Managers, evaluate new and existing partnerships
  • Using the Communities of Practice model, create and model a culture of open communication and continuous improvement, through reflection, sharing of best practices, course-corrections and celebration of achievements
  • Continue development of program quality monitoring and improvement processes
  • Manage program-related budgets and generate quarterly reports with recommendations

General Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to grant applications, reports, newsletters and other communications
  • Assist with special event planning and other duties as directed by Senior Program Director or ED

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1-3 years experience in program management, preferably in STEM and out-foschool-time education, supervision, and training
  • Familiarity with youth development principles
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Must be computer proficient and internet savvy and have a driver’s license
  • Experience with family engagement a plus
