Hours: Primarily day shift with willingness to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends as needed to meet the needs of the college.  Some travel required.

Description

Unity College seeks an experienced Sustainability Director with a national reputation to lead College-wide sustainability planning and oversee an active, committed sustainability department.  Reporting to the President, the Sustainability Director will work collaboratively at all levels of the College to develop, implement, and communicate coordinated sustainability efforts in support of Unity’s academic focus on sustainability science. At this exciting time of growth for Unity College, we seek candidates with experience in administrative and facilities planning who can also work closely with faculty and engage a diverse student body in and out of the classroom. This position will include an instructional component to total no more than 30% of work time. Individuals should be familiar with energy and climate emissions accounting, and conversant in operational sustainability areas of food and agriculture, materials and waste management, and green building principles. We seek a self-directed, adept manager, able to balance multiple projects and priorities while motivating direct reports and others to fulfill Unity’s sustainability education mission. The successful candidate will be skilled communicator, called upon to promote Unity’s reputation for sustainability achievement internally and among appropriate external networks and associations.

Responsibilities

Advanced degree in sustainability, environmental science, environmental studies, or a related field strongly preferred and 3 years of experience in sustainability education. Equivalent combination of education and experience considered. Training in energy and climate emissions accounting preferred. Experience in facilities planning and in higher education sustainability preferred.  Former teaching experience preferred.
