Pure Farms, Pure Waters Campaign:
For more than a decade, Waterkeeper Alliance has actively developed and implemented advocacy efforts at the state and federal level to combat adverse water quality impacts caused by the proliferation of Concentrated Animal Feed Operations (CAFO’s) in North Carolina and other states in the U.S. Our efforts in this regard have included enforcement actions against CAFOs, administrative challenges to state regulatory schemes, coordinating advocacy efforts with other organizations, and challenges to state and federal rulemaking.
International Expansion Initiative:
As an international organization, we want to explore taking this successful domestic campaign global to support the work of our Waterkeepers around the world as they face pollution from the industrial livestock industry. If you’re interested in global food systems, water pollution, community activism, sustainability, and the water food energy nexus, this would be a great position for you! Researching international campaign expansion would include gathering and concisely analyzing the industry and country trends; describing the governmental regulators, regulations and programs; identifying and researching key actors including companies, investment firms, nongovernmental organizations, governmental organizations, and community advocates; researching and describing industry presence in selected countries and regions; identifying existing global, regional and local data sources on industrial livestock operations; and developing an expansion and fundraising strategy. Regional priorities are as follows: Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Europe. Spanish language abilities are preferred.
The intern will work closely with the Latin America and Asia Regional Coordinators, with input from the International Director and the Senior Attorney.
