Position Title: Climate Change Intern

Location: Washington, DC

Hours and Compensation: Duration is four months (flexible), 3 to 4 days a week, starting as soon as possible; unpaid

Description: We are looking for a smart, dynamic individual who can help develop a strategy for engagement with World Bank, Governments and CSO partners to strengthen the Climate Change agenda with the World Bank, as part of the Safeguard Policies review process.

The internship is ideal for individuals seeking knowledge and experience in the areas of international affairs, especially on issues relating to climate change, multilateral institutions, development, international human rights, and environment. The intern will communicate with World Bank officials, along with environment and social justice activists throughout the world. Our informal, dynamic structure enables interns to become immersed in BIC’s day-to-day operations and gain extensive practical experience and knowledge of the IFIs.

Responsibilities:

•  Work with BIC staff to develop a strategy for engagement with the World Bank on Climate Change

•  Identify and communicate with civil society groups in partner countries who are concerned with issues of climate change at the World Bank

•  Develop a system of communication with partners and relevant staff at the World Bank

•  Update BIC website with accurate information about World Bank and Climate Change

Qualifications:

•  Strong research skills

•  Interest in climate change

•  Comfortable communicating with high-level officials

•  Self-starter

•  Familiarity with some of the following issues: climate change, environmental assessment, forests, oceans.

•  Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred.
