Description: Our farm is currently located on a one-acre undeveloped lot in the heart of Berkeley, which we temporarily lease, and includes raised beds for vegetables, flowers, herbs and fruit, greenhouses, an aquaponics system, teaching tents, meditation spaces, chickens, bees and milking goats. All farm structures are designed to be portable, and were innovatively constructed with mostly recycled and sustainable materials.

While the Urban Adamah Fellowship is our core program, our farm has quickly evolved into a thriving Jewish environmental education center and gathering place for the entire Bay Area Jewish community. We now offer a robust set of youth programs and camps, holiday celebrations, workshops and public programs, which we continue to develop to meet the needs and interests of our participants.

Responsibilities: The Associate Director manages multiple programmatic and administrative areas within the organization.

Program Vision and Management Strategic guidance

  • Supervision and support
  • Budget development and oversight
  • Program evaluation and support
  • Curriculum design support
  • Communications and marketing support
  • Leadership for new program initiatives

Administration and Site Management

  • Standardizing staff evaluation and performance review protocols
  • Supervising upgrading/maintenance of all back-end systems related to marketing, fundraising and database management.
  • Staff training and professional development

Additional Roles and Responsibilities

  • Public Relations
  • Communications and Marketing
  • Board Development and Support
  • Teaching – internally and externally – in any appropriate topic area including but not limited to the core strategic program areas of Jewish tradition, sustainable agriculture, mindfulness and social action.
  • New Projects

Qualifications: We are looking for someone who is in personal alignment with the mission, values and heart/mind/body/spirit approach of Urban Adamah. Individual should have strong and proven communication, administrative and management skills, and a minimum of 3 years of management experience. Individual should be detail oriented, able to manage multiple projects at once, skilled in Microsoft Office and have a strong track record of successful program and people management.
