Description: PSE Healthy Energy is a non-profit energy science and policy think tank dedicated to supplying evidence-based, scientific information and resources on the environmental, public health, and climate dimensions of energy production and use. Our work predominantly focuses on oil and gas development (e.g., “fracking” and enhanced oil recovery), renewable energy, and energy storage. We have offices in Oakland, CA, Ithaca, NY, and New York City. PSE Healthy Energy’s mission is to bring scientific transparency and clarity to energy policy discussions, helping to level the playing field for citizens, advocacy groups, the media, policy makers, and politicians by generating, translating, and disseminating scientific information. No other interdisciplinary collaboration of physicians, scientists, and engineers exists to focus specifically on health and sustainability at the intersection of energy science and policy.

Purpose

The Program Associate provides research and administrative support to the Environment program. Primary responsibilities are outlined below, but this list should be viewed as a starting point as the position will evolve and grow according to the successful candidate’s interests and aptitude, and the evolution of the program.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with scientific research, including compilation and analysis of data and editing/preparation of white papers and manuscripts for peer-review
  • Monitor and catalog scientific literature relevant to the scope of the program and the organization
  • Meet regularly with the Program Director to discuss progress of current research and ideas for new research
  • Respond to general inquiries from the public
  • Assist with management of online resources including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS), PSE Library, and State of the Science entries
  • Assist with software, grant proposals, and other requests for research tools as needed
  • Assist with planning program events, and organizational meetings.

Qualifications: Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, petroleum engineering/geology, or related technical degree
  • Experience or interest in researching the environmental dimensions of fossil energy systems, including GHG/climate change, water, and/or air quality issues
  • Exceptional research, data analysis, and writing skills and strong oral communication skills
  • Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), and general internet, video and electronic communications
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and R preferred
