Position Title: Community Lead Organizer

Location: Woodland, California

Dates and compensation: $35,000 to $45,000 per year (commensurate with experience)

Description: The Lead Organizer is responsible for the creation and implementation of grassroots organizing in Woodland, overall program performace, as well as the management of community organizers, volunteers, and daily operations in the community. They will collaborate with local leaders and partner organizations to engage Woodland residents in energy saving behaviors, products, and programs. We are looking for applicants who know the Woodland community and have local ties. The Lead Organizer will coordinate the strategic planning efforts of this community-based initiative in collaboration with partner organizations, using grassroots organizing and advocacy approaches to effectively lead the outreach team. The Lead Organizer must manage complex projects with many moving pieces and oversee task completion, as well as have strong communication and computer skills, excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management, staff, and outside clients, and vendors. The job also requires an individual who is flexible and creative, as well as have the ability to take direction.

Responsibilities: Ø Supervising and program oversight: set up and organize the local field office; create employee protocols; manage community organizers; review organizers’ priorities and oversee project tasks; track and celebrate program performance; and ensure performance goals are met. Ø Outreach: manage the creation and implementation of campaign plans; research, attend, and staff an information booth at local events; research and partner with local community organizations; attend relevant municipal meetings; plan local workshops and events; canvass; build stakeholder relationships; report weekly to the Empower leadership team; oversee participant acquisition; and manage data entry tasks. Ø Building stakeholder relationships: contact local groups and solicit partnership agreements; present at public meetings on behalf of the program; conduct trainings for community groups, including preparation of training materials; assist in creation of campaign plans; and interact with public officials. Ø Volunteers: identify and train volunteers; recognize and celebrate volunteers; and increase volunteer responsibilities. Ø Data quality: ensure data is properly entered and tracked; analyze data regularly to improve outreach strategies. Ø Media relations: support media and public relations efforts, including drafting press releases and supporting the organization of press events. Ø Other responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications: Ø Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, graduate education is a plus Ø A minimum of two (2) years of experience with campaign organizing, a minimum of one (1) year of experience managing a team of staff and campaigns Desired Qualifications: Ø Fluency in additional non-English languages, especially Spanish, is a plus Ø Successful community organizing experience in clean energy, energy efficiency, or sustainability campaigns Ø Experience building and working with broad-based coalitions, such as, business interests, environmental organizations, health associations, union interests, teachers, faith-based organizations, and others Ø Successful media outreach experience, including skillful press advisories and releases Ø Strong oral and written communication skills, including experience in preparing and delivering public presentations and communicating directly with lawmakers Ø Ability to condense and explain technical information to concise and pointed summaries that can be understood by a diverse constituents Ø Ability to work independently and as a member of a team Ø Ability to develop and manage interpersonal relationships Ø Ability to design a work plan, prioritize and meet goals Ø Computer skills, including: word processing, databases, excel and power point Ø Well-organized, high attention to detail, and self-motivated
