Position Title: Writer/Social Media Coordinator

Location: Kingston, New York

Dates: 25 hours/week

Description: The Writer/Social Media Coordinator will work closely with the Manager of Community Relations to support outreach efforts for the Local Economies Project (LEP) and its newly created Hudson Valley Farm Hub.  He/she is responsible for developing and writing dynamic content on a regular basis for websites, e-communications, and social media platforms under the direction of the Manager of Community Relations.  In addition, he/she will assist with proofreading and editing, special events promotion, and other outreach activities as assigned.

Responsibilities: Specific duties:

  • Help draft and implement a social media plan for LEP and manage day-to-day execution on social media platforms.
  • Research and write articles and news posts for e-newsletters and websites, including interviewing subject experts, partners, and team members.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with Community Relations team to develop story ideas and plan content development and production schedule.
  • Follow influencers and relevant news in the field of resilient agriculture and food systems.
  • Work with Program Assistant to align visuals and design elements with written content.
  • Assist with proofreading and editing of LEP/FH written materials.
  • Assist with events promotion and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications: The position requires the ability to conceptualize, research, write, and maintain high quality material in such a way that effectively communicates the vision and mission of the organization to both general and agricultural audiences.  Experience with social media platforms and web publishing, superior organizational and communication skills are required.   Knowledge of agriculture and local food systems strongly preferred.

  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.  The ability to develop story ideas, and write with both creativity and efficiency.
  • Proficiency with a range of social media platforms and strategies.
  • Experience with web publishing, HTML, SEO and basic content management systems. Familiarity with WordPress a plus.
  • Demonstrated interest in and familiarity with local food systems, agriculture, together with enthusiasm for the organization’s mission.
  • Experience with on-line writing techniques as well as traditional promotional content.
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, and deadline-driven.
  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude and the ability to work independently.
  • A bachelor’s degree and minimum 3 years experience in journalism, communications or related field.
