Position Title: Program Coordinator – Global Development and Environmental Institute

Location: Somerville, Massachusetts

Dates and compensation: This position has a proposed start date of September 1, 2015, with potential to start on an earlier date. This position is grant funded and is not eligible for severance.

Description: GDAE is a research institute focused on integrating environmental and social factors into economics research and education. The institute conducts policy-relevant research and develops college-level educational materials, including several textbooks.

The position of program coordinator manages the institute’s grants, liaisons between GDAE and the university administration, oversees the daily functions of the office, and organizes the institute’s events.

Responsibilities:

  • Grant management, including coordinating with GDAE researchers to prepare grants, finalizing grant applications, financial management of ongoing grants, and preparing grant reports.
  • General office management, including purchasing supplies and equipment, hiring and supervising student assistants, coordinating various issues with Tufts’ facilities, and working with GDAE’s vendors.
  • Additional GDAE financial and administrative management, including processing staff salaries and reimbursements, establishing protocols for GDAE’s affiliates and consultants, overseeing hiring processes, and coordinating with the Tufts administration on a regular basis.
  • Event coordination, including organizing events, collaborating with other Tufts departments and institutes, working with GDAE’s outreach coordinator to advertise events, and oversee event budgets.
  • Manage GDAE’s information technology needs, including ensuring the smooth operation of equipment, planning for appropriate upgrades, and coordinating technical support.

Qualifications: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree, 0-3 years of related office experience, and familiarity with university grant management, office management, and computer skills including expertise with Excel.

Preferred Qualifications: We prefer an applicant that shares a belief in the institute’s mission of environmental and social sustainability.
