Description: NewClimate Institute seeks a researcher in Berlin or Cologne, to support research-based project work on international climate change policies and sustainable development. NewClimate Institute is a think tank which started operation in November 2014. We are a team of researchers and policy advisors with long experience in supporting the international climate negotiations and associated national processes. Through our policy oriented research and consultation we help national governments, NGOs and other actors to find solutions to the global climate change challenge.

Responsibilities: Your work here would include, amongst other responsibilities, the contribution to research reports, the organisation of and participation in workshops and conferences, desk analysis on climate mitigation related topics and the quantitative and qualitative analysis of existing climate policies.

Qualifications: You should be highly motivated with a strong interest in the field of climate change policy and sustainable development.:

  • Interested and motivated to work in a small, evolving institute
  • Curious to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment to seek solutions to climate change challenges
  • Keen to work in an international atmosphere with partners from around the globe
  • Self-sufficient , independent and eager to learn
  • Thorough, solution seeking and scientific in her/his way of working
  • Flexible and interested to travel in Germany and internationally
  • Minimum of two to three years of experience in the area of climate change mitigation
  • Understanding of climate policy landscape, both at the country as well as in international policy level
  • Strong skills in quantitative analysis, especially around energy systems (affinity to numbers, advanced user of Excel, basic programming)
  • Languages: Fluency in English and German (spoken and written) is required.
  • Experience in preparing and giving presentations and writing reports
  • Experience in managing small to medium sized projects
  • Permission to work in Germany
