  Sheva Fruitman is a multi-faceted talent. A former photography major at Bard, she has worked, and exhibited frequently, as an artist, photographer, and designer. For the display cases in the Stevenson Library she has designed an installation that features some examples of her creations, organized around the theme of blue. The exhibition includes photographs, found objects, collages made from an old issue of Vogue magazine, and examples of her jewelry. She likes a recent quotation by Pico Iyer as a statement of her views about art making and living a creative life:
  “it’s only by remaining constantly mobile, keeping your voice as fluid and versatile as the world around you, that you can begin to be true to who you really are.”

- May Is National Bike Month

  Take the Bard Bike 2013 pledge.
  - Bard celebrates National Bike Month every May. Bike to Bard Day is Friday May 17. Meet at Taste Budd's Chocolate & Coffee Cafe between 8:00 and 8:30am; we will depart for Bard on the 'safer' route at 8:30am. Friday bikers: TEXT 'ibike' to 845-538-4055 and get a free small coffee before the ride. Offer good for all Bard bikers till 11am.
  - Saturday May 11: Join the EcoReps for a guided bike ride to the Village of Red Hook. It's also Red Hook's Apple Blossom Day, so bring some money and browse the street vendors.
  - Red Hook Greenway and Trails Committee hosts the annual Tour de Red Hook. May 19: This family-friendly ride connects Bard with both villages, Red Hook and Tivoli, on an afternoon in May. Find it on FaceBook.
  - Bard has a BikeShare program—members borrow a bike for up to 48 hours. Email bc3274@bard.edu to details.

MLK Jr. Day of Engagement

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'" Each year, people across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities. Created as a national call to service, it brings home the importance of working together to provide solutions for pressing social concerns.

Saturday, January 19, 2013: Over 400 Bard first-year students and local area agencies partner for this day of engagement at more than 20 sites. Our students engage local youth through the wonders of science, providing a work force for civic agencies in the community.
